With Furious hitting stores October 30, I’ll be busy and going places. I’m the Guest of Honor at Orycon Nov 2/4. I’ll be signing books at Powell’s City of Books the evening of Nov 4.
I’ll be in Tuscon, AZ at TusCon Nov 9-11. And in LA for LasCon Nov 23-25. with a signing at Mysterious Galaxy Nov 26.
I’m looking forward to a lot of fun.
I just finnished reading The First Casualty, The Price of Peace & They Also Serve. When I saw all 3 at a used book store I just couldn’t wait for republication, sorry. For all of you Kris fans who have to wait, they are most definitely worth getting. I particularly enjoyed Trudi’s solution to hacking into a computer network.
Now I’m all hyped to pick up Furious in a few weeks. I can handle the wait! I can handle the wait!! I can…
BTW: Mike after finishing They Also Serve, I have to ask; Do you have issues with someone named Victoria?
Tim
Hi, Tim,
The head of our network systems shop just about laughed himself silly when he read Trudy’s solution. Me, I’d sat through enough meetings hearing him complain about that stuff that I just had to steal it.
As for Victoria, nope, I don’t think I’ve ever met a woman named Victoria and certainly don’t have any issues with Victoria’s secrets. I do kind of like Queen Victoria and so I guess it slipped in. You’ll enjoy Vicky Peterwalds adventures coming to stores in 2014.
Sorry about the wait for Furious. I hope you and a lot of fans buy it as soon as it comes out. I’d love to make the NYT list high enough up to matter this time.
Mike
Mike,
Anticipation is half the fun, or so I am told.
I’m looking forward to reading Vicky Peterwald’s tale. From the title, I’m guessing it picks up after Daring.
Tim
Hi, Tim,
It actually starts just before the ending of Daring, with Vicky hacking into the camera to see that good-bye kiss on the pier. Than it’s all Vicky’s story. As you’d expect, Vicky is not Kris Longknife and it was a hoot writing her.
Mike
I’ll try to come say hello on the 4th.
As we count down the last few days till Furious, I have a few questions.
Do you have any control over the book’s cover art? The reason I ask this is that Kris is recognizably the same person in all of them. This is not always the case with book series; David Webber’s Honor Harrington being a good example where its not. In fact, in Fields of Dishonor, I think she has a sort of creepy resemblance to Michael Jackson.
Anyway keep up the good work on the covers.
Also has anyone approached you about movie rights? Of all the space opera sci fi series I’ve read I think yours would be best suited to the big screen. Most of the action is close up and personal enough with a nice tight ensomble of characters that it would convert well to a movie. If someone has, let me cast my vote for Allison Scagliotti (currently plays Claudia on Warehouse 13) to play Kris.
Tim
Hi, Tim. The gal on Kris’s covers is a friend of the artist. I’m glad they’ve stayed friends for the last ten years. With any luck Ace will continue to give him the work and he will stay on good terms with the gal. And no I don’t have any say. The artist is, however, doing the covers for the three Ray Longknife books. I’ve seen Ray Longknife and Trouble on two covers. I think Mary Rodrigo and Gramma Trouble will get the last two covers. No promise on those.
So far no one has offered to make them into movies. I agree, they’d make a good story. I was originally thinking of Donna Moss on the West Wing when I started the books, way back when, I agree that Allison would work as good.
MIke
The artist should feel fortunate that his girlfriend looks exactly like Kris!
